You’re Not Afraid of Starting a Business - You’re Afraid of What You Think It Means

Let’s get one thing clear: You weren’t born afraid to start a business. You learned it. Someone told you you can't and you believed them.
That means you can unlearn it too.
In a session with Sarah this week, she came to me asking for strategies—“What do I do to overcome this fear of starting a business?”
So I told her the truth: Fear is self-created. We are afraid because we think the experience may do something to us. It’s not life-threatening. It’s not biological. You weren’t born with it.
It came from a moment, a story, an experience. And once we uncover where that fear came from, we can change the story.
Because starting a business doesn’t need to feel like a scary leap. It can just be… the next thing you do.
“Business owner” - doesn’t have to feel heavy. It’s just like saying you’re a teacher, a partner, a coffee lover. It only carries the weight you give it.
So if that title feels too big right now? Forget it.
Start acting like a business owner before calling yourself one. Take small, daily actions. Think about why you want to do this. Build a story that makes sense to your brain. Do what you can, not what you 'should'.
And here’s the magic: The more you move, the more confident you’ll feel.
Action reveals clarity. Mistakes reveal what works. And progress—real, messy, in-motion progress - builds the kind of belief that just keeps the adrenaline going. You just couldn't stop!
Don’t wait to feel ready. Move, and confidence will catch up to you.
