There’s so much to learn in every corner of life if we just take the time to look. Today, I was reminded of this simple truth during a massage session with a young therapist who truly inspired me. She was so skilled at her craft, yet I don’t think she fully realizes just how great she is.
And that’s often the case, isn’t it? We don’t always recognize our own potential until someone else points it out—especially someone who has experienced different levels of expertise. We might have an idea of how good we are, but without a broad spectrum of comparison, it’s easy to overlook our own greatness.
As someone who enjoys massages, I’ve experienced everything from the sublime to the so-so. But this young woman, likely in her early twenties, stood out. She carried herself with a casual ease, perhaps not fully aware that her effortless talent is something special. For her, it’s just a job. But what she might not see is that this “job” could be her ticket to something much bigger.
This experience got me thinking about how we perceive our own dreams and challenges. Often, what we see as impossible or difficult is simply because we don’t know how to achieve it. But just because we can’t see the path doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. In fact, what seems like a mountain to us might be a molehill to someone else.
The key to unlocking your true potential lies in expanding your perspective. When you elevate your view, the challenges that once seemed insurmountable start to shrink. You begin to see that your dreams are not only possible, but they are within reach.
Take this young massage therapist as an example. She may not realize it, but she’s already achieved what many would consider impossible. She’s left her home country of Myanmar to work in Malaysia, a step that many might find daunting. Despite her youth and limited education, she possesses a skill—a gift—that has already opened doors for her.
But this is just the beginning. With her talent, there’s no reason she couldn’t take her career even further. Perhaps one day she’ll work in a luxury hotel, become a physiotherapist, or even run her own business. The possibilities are endless, but only if she can see them.
And that’s a lesson for all of us. We all have unique gifts, often more than one. When we apply these gifts wisely and strategically, the action becomes effortless, and our opportunities expand. But first, we need to open our eyes to the possibilities that exist beyond our current view.
One of the best ways to do this is by learning from those who have already achieved success. Instead of just mimicking their actions, try to understand the strategies behind their success. How did they find opportunities? How did they create possibilities for themselves? When you grasp the mindset behind their achievements, you can start piecing together your own path to success.
I encourage you to expand your exposure. Learn more, read more, especially from people who have walked the path before you. There are endless possibilities waiting for you—you just need to see them.
